What kinds of activity does DC Pulse show?+

DC Pulse currently shows nearby DC 311 service requests and recently issued 2026 Building Permits. Additional public infrastructure datasets are planned.

Where does Building Permit information come from?+

Building Permit records are published by the DC Department of Buildings through DC Open Data and DC GIS.

Why doesn’t every record appear on the map?+

Some public records do not include a valid geocoded location. Those records may still appear in Activity but cannot always be placed accurately on the map.

Can I filter out Building Permits or 311 requests?+

Yes. The Map and Activity views allow users to filter by data source.

Do I have to share my location?+

No. Location access is optional. You can enter a DC address or browse by ward instead.

Why can’t I find a record?+

DC Pulse can only show records available in the source datasets. Availability, categorization, geocoding, and update timing are controlled by the source data services.

How fresh is the data?+

The app retrieves public records from DC government data services. Refresh timing depends on those source systems.

Can I search by ward?+

Yes. Browse any DC ward without using your location.

What does a request status mean?+

Status labels come from the source record. DC Pulse helps you read them, but does not manage or resolve 311 requests.

DATA & ATTRIBUTION

Grounded in
public records.

DC Pulse currently brings together:

  • DC 311 City Service Requests
  • 2026 Building Permits, published by the DC Department of Buildings
  • DC Open Data and DC GIS, the public data infrastructure for these records

Data availability, accuracy, categorization, geocoding, and update timing depend on the source datasets. Some Building Permit records may lack usable map coordinates because the source could not automatically geocode the address. Those records may still appear in Activity.

DC Pulse does not create, manage, or resolve 311 requests, and does not issue, approve, manage, or verify building permits.

THE CITY IS ALWAYS CHANGING.

Keep your finger
on the pulse.
